Jenna was telling me recently that her mom is having problems with her eyeballs falling out and that she's going to try to find her a good diet to help prevent it in the future. Sam was recently reading Shel Silverstein, and I just happened to notice this one:

Carrots
They say that carrots are good for your eyes,
They swear that they improve your sight,
But I'm seein' worse than I did last night-
You think maybe I ain't usin' 'em right?

-Falling Up

Maybe you have to make them into drops...

I took Sam to see How to Eat Fried Worms tonight. It was cute in a disgusting, little boy kind of way. He liked it.

Tomorrow I'm going to weigh-in and then Sam's got karate class (hopefully he'll learn some more killer moves). Then we're heading up to the lake for the weekend. It's supposed to rain some, but I'm going to take a couple of books.

In the internets:
I find this creepy and sad.

I heard a story about the Flat Daddies on NPR yesterday.

And thanks for the Shel Silverstein carrot analogy. Today in Clinical Nutrition class, we learned that if you eat too many carrots (or, specifically, drink too much carrot juice), your skin will turn orange. It almost looks like you've been on a cruise and got a great tan.

Never tried stuffing them in my eyeballs, though.

It's true! Sam used to eat lots of carrots and sweet potatoes and squash when he was a baby (oh how things change...) and he turned orange once. I had to cut back on the orange food after that. Hmmm... Wonder if it works with Cheetos?

That would be a good trick... turn your kid orange for Halloween. Luckily, it's not toxic, just funny-looking.

I can't imagine Flat Daddy riding along in the car as beneficial. Those poor kids are going through enough without Mom making them sit next to FD each time they run an errand.

Was that picture in the book or something you sketched? It's a little disturbing... :) I love Shel Silverstein - that poem about that girl "almost perfect but not quite" is always in my head.

Once my dad was taking these vitamins that had too much beta kerotine (sp?) in them and he turned orange - everyone kept asking him if he went on vacation, and then finally his doc noticed that the palms of his hands were the same "tan" color, so clearly it was not sun-induced discoloration :)

The illustration was from the Shel Silverstein book...

re Flat Daddy - when my older brother, Larry had joined the Navy, he happened to be out at sea on his birthday that first year. So we had our own birthday party for him - we got a pair of his old overalls, a shirt, and a cowboy hat that he always wore and I we somehow made a body and head. We took pictures of us hanging out with the substitute Larry while he ate cake, opened his presents, etc. I think he even got a little drunk, if I remember correctly. We sent him the pictures along with his presents. But we never rode around in the car with him or anything like that...
